Sunsets at Burleigh Headland are not something you want to miss while you’re here. So why not do as the locals do, grab some fish and chips from one of the local shops – grab a spot on the headland and enjoy the sunset to the sound of the lorikeets.

Gold Coast Marathon – Viva Surfers Paradise – Metricon Stadium – The Kokoda Challenge, Gold Coast

The race attracts over 43,000 visitors from outside the Gold Coast, is shown in 129 countries, and will have 27,000 plus participants. It is Australia’s premier road race, and is known for being one of the flattest and fastest courses in the world. If a marathon isn’t for you – then Viva Surfers Paradise will have your entertainment needs met. This event is held from the 7th-16th of July and is a free event! It’s a tribute to the greatest music legends in the heart of Surfers. There will be live shows, rock ’n’ roll dancing, a car show Viva Surfers Paradisefor the vintage car-lovers and the always popular Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest.

The Elvis tribute contest is not to be missed. The competition gives Elvis tribute artists the change to battle it out, and judging is based on vocals, style and stage presence. With $5,000 and a place in the Ultimate Elvis Contest in Memphis up for grabs – it’s serious business, and great fun to watch.

Whether the Kokoda Challenge has always been on your bucket list, or you are the kind of person up for a challenge – registrations are now open for the Kokoda Challenge held of the 15-16th of July on the Gold Coast. Often referred to as the toughest team endurance even in Australia, with 96kms of winding tracks, 5,000m of vertical elevations and 13 check points, prove to yourself that you can go crash through your limits and do something extraordinary. This is truly a team event, so you want to make sure you’ve got a good group of people on this journey with you.

The 2017 Burleigh Pro is a world famous surfing event. Perhaps you are the sporting type and are here for the PGA Championships, or just have a competitive spirit and want to challenge your friends and family to a game of Barefoot Bowls. It’s also the perfect place to take the kids for a swim as there are no waves, so you can have a much gentler swim – just make sure keep to the patrolled zones.

Australian PGA Championships

If you happen to be on the Gold Coast December 1-4th you’ll want to attend the Australian PGA Championships held at the Royal Pines on the Gold Coast. This 4 day golfing event is a world renowned 72 Hole Stroke Play Event. Will Nathan Holman be able to defend his title? Be there to witness the action and be one of the first to know.


The event runs from 6am-7pm Thursday and Friday, and from 6:30am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday. The event has multiple catering options so you won’t go hungry! Keep in mind you don’t have to attend all four days, you can buy a one-day, two-day or season pass.




You can also visit on the 28th and 29th of November to watch the practise days, or watch the Pro-Am competition on the 30th of November. Both of these events are free to the general public.

What’s On in November:
If you are on the Gold Coast in November, hopefully you’ll have had a chance to check out some of the fantastic events that have been on. From the various celebrations of Melbourne Cup to the Pan Pacific Masters Games and the Gold Coast Multicultural Festival, these events are always a big hit.Don’t forget Schoolies is on in Surfers Paradise as well, with the 19th-26th of November being QLD Schoolies, and the 26th of November – 10th of December is Schoolies for NSW and VIC students. So just keep those dates in mind while planning your holidays.

Burleigh Heads is on of the best spots on the Gold Coast. With beautiful beaches, funky cafés and restaurants and its own national park. For a truly spectacular view, why not walk the Mt Tamborine Skywalk. It’ll take you around 45 mins for this easy walk featuring 300 meters of steel bridges through the highest parts of the canopy, a 40 metre lookout that soars a breathtaking 30 metres above the creek and forest. The walk is 1.5kms and also features sections along the forest floor – it’s a fairly easy stroll through the forest so will suit most fitness levels.

There are dozens of lookouts along the mountain range, some simply require a short stroll, others are a more intense – both kinds offer a diverse range of scenery from waterfalls to caves, rainforest foliage to the more quintessential Australian forest.

Why not go for a stroll through Mt. Tamborine, eat some freshly made fudge, and wander through quirky shops and cafes. When you’re done go for a walk through the rainforest. There are so many different tracks to walk, you can have a lazy stroll to a look out, or enjoy a full hike. There is something to suit everyone.


Glow Worms
While you’re up in the mountains why not check out the Glow Worms? There are two options, you can view them in their natural habitat at Natural Bridge – you’ll want to bring a torch and sturdy shoes as it gets very dark and there are plenty of stairs. You’ll need to visit at night and there are tours that can take you.

Alternatively, you can check out the Glow Worm Caves at Mt. Tamborine – although they are housed – this is the easiest way to see them, and you can visit during the day. For an added bonus you can find them here all year round – unlike at Natural Bridge where they are only visible during certain seasons.

If you’re a surfing fan mark your diary for 9th-20th of March for the Quicksilver & Roxy Pro. This is an event not to be missed as the world’s best male and female surfers compete for the title. Held at the iconic Snapper Rocks in Coolangatta, you’ll love the atmosphere and watching the competition from the shore. You may even be lucky enough to meet your surfing idol. What happened in October

Australian Street Entertainment Championships – Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival

The top-rated free festival is always popular, and, like the Street Entertainment Championships, it’s located a hop, skip and a jump from Gemini Court.

If the Street Entertainment Championships take your fancy, head into the streets of Surfers Paradise to catch a range of performers spruiking their skills, based around four stages.

Each zone includes unique theme and without the help of a captive audience, performers will be putting it all on the line to intrigue and impress the passing crowds.

Artists compete to be crowned the 2016 Australian Street Entertainment Champion. A list of performers at the championships will be provided here closer to the date.

Again, the Australian Street Entertainment Championships, a free event, will be held from March 25 to 28.

Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival                                          May 19-22, 2016

The Kids Family Fun Fair will open at 4pm and includes kid’s activities, animal nursery, jumping castles, face painters, exhibitors and stage shows. Carols under the Stars kicks off at 6pm. There will also be a fireworks display and a visit by Santa. Free shuttle buses will be available from Burleigh Heads State School, Stockland Shopping Centre, Treetops and a park and ride shuttle from Robina Town Centre car park.

When: Saturday December 13, starting at 3pm
Where: Kurrawa Park, Old Burleigh Road, Broadbeach

Family fun from 3pm with carols starting at 6pm featuring an amazing line up of performers including the incredible Marina Prior and the ever talented Denis Walter supported by The Boogie Woogies, the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra and the Gold Coast Choir. There will be plenty of food stalls in the park and a spectacular fireworks display at the end of the concert.
