The 2018 Burleigh Pro is fast approaching. This four day event will run between January 25th-28th and attracts some of the best surfers in the world. Competitors here are battling it out for points to get into the World Surf League Qualifying Series – so you know the competition will be fierce.
Burleigh Heads is the best spot to watch all the action as the headland acts like a natural
amphitheatre – it does get busy though so make sure you get there early or be prepared to walk a little. Bring a blanket, a picnic and settle under a tree to watch all the action.

Sunsets at Burleigh Headland are not something you want to miss while you’re here. So why not do as the locals do, grab some fish and chips from one of the local shops – grab a spot on the headland and enjoy the sunset to the sound of the lorikeets.
It is a popular spot on the weekends, so if you want a bit more quiet – head there on a week day evening for a little more privacy as you take in the views of the entire Gold Coast coastline.

Court you have free use of board games, DVD’s? After all a holiday isn’t a holiday without a lazy afternoon playing video games or watching a movie when you’re exhausted from all of your adventures. Plus we also have boogie boards and pool noodles you can borrow. We know how much fun your kids will have playing in the water with them, and they are impossible to travel with, just ask at reception and we will be happy to help.
The annual migration of the humpback whale is happening right now until the end of October. There are a number of different tour companies – a number of them leave from the Gold Coast Spit. Alternatively you can head down to Byron for the day as there are a number of tours departing there regularly. Be sure to shop around as there are always deals on, and they offer a variety of experiences. Some will be more private on smaller vessels, others are on larger vessels and are full service with lunch provided, so you can choose an option that suits your family and budget best.
Surf lessons and board hire shops are located near almost every beach on the coast. It’s recommended that you book as the classes often fill up, especially as the weather heats up. It’s worth checking in at reception to see if we have any specials on offer while you’re staying, otherwise we can point you to the closest schools and hire shops.


This event is an important qualification for selection into the Queensland State Junior Surfing Team – so excitement and talent will be at their peak. This event is held on the 9th and 10th of September and could be held anywhere between The Southport Spit all the way down to Duranbah. You’ll need to call the event hotline on (07) 30303 6388 each morning to find the exact location as the location will move dependant on conditions.
It makes for a wonderful day out cruising the water and will allow you to see a different side of the Gold Coast.



Well known for its wildlife encounters where you can feed a kangaroo and hug a koala – there is actually much more to see and do.
to our colourful parrots, endangered species, and the wedge-tailed eagle. Plus, if you hang around at the end of the show you can also have your photo taken with a bird of prey.
Plus there are a range of photography and art workshops, live music and yoga classes to take part in.
As a bonus you may be lucky enough to see additional marine life such as dolphins and turtles.
They are located next to the Cudgen Surf Life Saving Club right along the beach and run from 5pm-9pm. With a range of food and drink stalls, fashion, art and crafts on display and live entertainment it’s a great night out for locals and visitors alike.
